DEREK MOBLEY IS RUNNING FOR GUILFORD COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 3
Derek will focus on supporting a world class K-12 education system, better pay for frontline workers and first responders, and creating an economic development strategy for the next decade.
GUILFORD COUNTY, NC --- Derek Mobley will seek the Democratic nomination for Guilford County Commissioner District 3 in 2022. He believes his work as an analyst for big companies and his volunteer experience will make him a strong leader focused on progress for all.
Derek has lived in the Piedmont his whole life. He has a Masters Degree in Economics and a degree from Chapel Hill. He wants to make sure Guilford County is a safe and growing place where he and his wife can raise their two young children.
Derek works for Pinnacle Financial Partners as a Quantitative Analyst. His work background also includes senior positions with globally recognized and Fortune 500 companies such as the Volvo Group, KPMG, and BB&T.
Derek has served the community as President of the Junior Chamber (Jaycees) and was President of the Bryan School Alumni Association. The Triad Business Journal featured him in their 2019 class of “40 under 40.” He was also selected to participate in the 2020 class of Leadership North Carolina.
Derek argues that, while he has seen some progress in Guilford County over the past decade, it is falling behind. He believes that outdated bureaucracy, under-investment in education, unambitious economic development planning, and poorly structured meetings are the most important problems. These problems put a tax on residents with lost opportunities for jobs and investment. They also create poverty and crime.
"I strongly believe that, with my experience bringing positive change to the community through my civic involvement and my work background in banking and transportation, I can help the county set realistic and focused priorities that will raise the quality of life for all of our residents," Derek said. "We need bigger investments in education, more support for frontline workers and first responders, and a game changing plan for economic development over the next decade to move Guilford forward."
